Access to state-of-the-art Research Infrastructures (RI) is one precondition for conducting excellence science. Since RI are becoming more and more complex and their planning and construction is so costly, countries are increasingly required to pool efforts and resources to assure long-term funding of such large facilities. This is a tricky task as the actual RI landscape suffers from a lack of comparability and efficiency. There is a great diversity among the strategic priority-setting exercises for RI at European, national and regional levels. Moreover, many different funding instruments coexist and European funding schemes are implemented differently across countries and regions. In order to achieve a sustainable RI landscape, the decision-making and funding processes as well as the evaluation methodologies need to be better aligned. This is the goal of InRoad, a Coordination and Support Action funded under Horizon 2020. In pursuit of this objective; InRoadInRoadInRoad conducted a broad online consultation, which targeted the national organisations in charge of national RI roadmapping to collect information about national RI policies in EU Member States and Associated Countries. The preliminary findings are further elaborated through case studies, for which more in-depth data is collected with expert interviews. The analysis of the mentioned data collections as well as the inputs from relevant stakeholders during the various workshops organised by the project enable to formulate relevant insights and recommendations for policy makers. The InRoad project aims at delivering recommendations and benchmarks of coordination mechanisms in favour of better alignment of RI policies in Europe.
Please be aware that it is not possible to attend InRoad session without registering for ESOF.
